Back before the world spiraled into the pandemic, we spent time traveling in South America.  It was a dream come true to live outside the US, and we often talk about heading back with family and friends.  We absolutely fell in love with the people, food, culture, architecture, and art in South America.  It was everything we imaged and more.  While there, I took photos at every turn, constantly inspired by our surroundings.  South America will always have a special place in our heart, so when I started designing our bedroom I knew that I wanted to incorporate a nod to this special part of the world that we love. Coastal Bedroom, Bedroom With Seagrass Wallpaper, International Bedroom Design I scrolled through the dozens and dozens of images on my phone and finally landed on this one.  It’s a rooftop shot, that captured both the walled city (or downtown Cartagena) and the modern beach strip adjacent to it .  I love the juxtaposition of the old and new, which is really a reflection of this developing destination.  From this photo I dove into furniture, bedding, etc. It was a fabulous starting point.  I’ve talked about this concept before, start with something you love and build from there.  Then, you’ll have a space you adore! I knew that I wanted to do wallpaper in this room, and I wanted something with a BIG impact.  Y’all Serena & Lily delivered.  But I kept this feature to just one wall for two reasons.  First, cost – this wallpaper was pricey, so keeping it to one wall made it do-able.  I also wanted to be careful about keeping this space light and airy, to reflect a modern coastal vibe.  So, keeping the wallpaper limited to one wall helped achieve that.  I’m also a HUGE wallpaper accent wall fan in general.  Why?  Because, I don’t want to over-do it.  I don’t want to hate this pattern in 6 months.  Sticking to one wall will help me stay devoted to this pattern a bit longer.   Here are a few wallpapers that I’m loving right now, with BIG impact.  Remember, go bold but keep the placement simple for a space you’ll love longer. Happy Designing!

Cartagena, Columbia was the inspiration for this coastal bedroom. Limiting the wallpaper to one wall ensured that it wasn't overdone and the light coastal look could still be achieved.

Outdoor Furniture Made For Morning Coffee + Sunset Dinner

Outdoor spaces are everything to me. So, we built a home that completely focuses on inviting outdoor spaces for early morning coffee and sunset dinner with family and friends. Each space has taken on it’s own personality and has it’s own perks. So, I’m excited to highlight all of them. But, let’s start with the main floor first. This outdoor living space is just outside of the living / kitchen area. There is nothing between the interior and exterior but a sliding glass door that spans the length of the house. So, creating a space that flowed from the inside color wise was important to me.
